Male in custody following St. Catharines incident

Niagara Regional Police Service press release – At approximately 11 a.m. on Sunday, January 12/2020, 1 District (St. Catharines) uniform officers were called to a residence in the area of Old Pine Trail and Vine Street in St. Catharines.

Initial investigation revealed that a male had forced his way into the residence and was threatening the female inside, who was able to leave the residence.

Information received about the potential for the male to be armed led to the activation of the Emergency Task Unit (ETU) along with negotiators to resolve the situation peacefully after the male barricaded himself inside the house.  At approximately 4:20pm the male was taken into custody without incident.

At this time, the male remains in custody while the investigation remains ongoing by detectives with the Domestic Violence Unit with charges pending.
