Mayor Sendzik challenges Niagara Mayors to #StompCancer

Niagara Wine Festival press release – This year marks the 45th annual Mayors’ Invitational Grape Stomp at the Niagara Grape and Wine Festival and Mayor Walter Sendzik has challenged Niagara’s Mayors to a special challenge to support local cancer organizations.

Partnering with the Niagara Grape and Wine Festival, Grape Growers of Ontario, JCI St. Catharines and Skycomp Solutions, Niagara’s Mayors will be working together to support local cancer organizations and to help stomp out cancer in support of Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati who is being treated for Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Members of the public are encouraged to donate to Wellspring Niagara, Walker Family Cancer Centre and the Rankin Family Cancer Rehab Program at the Hotel Dieu Shaver Health & Rehabilitation Centre between now and Sept. 21/2018. Then on Saturday, Sept. 22/2018 at 12:00 p.m., the Mayors will stomp the grapes at the at Montebello Park. The volume of stomped grape juice plus the total volume of donations will determine the winner of this year’s Mayor’s Grape Stomp.

This year’s grape stomp continues the tradition of Niagara Mayors coming together to raise awareness for community issues during the festival. From 2015 to 2017, the Mayor’s Invitational Grape Stomp collected donations for area food banks. This year’s theme will help raise awareness for cancer care and research right here in Niagara.

“The Mayor’s Grape Stomp is always a fun competition to kick of the Niagara Grape and Wine Festival. This year, Niagara’s Mayors and community leaders are coming together to support our friend Mayor Jim and everyone in Niagara who has battled cancer – a disease that has impacted nearly every one of us in some way,” Mayor Walter Sendzik.“I’m looking forward to the challenge and St. Catharines support to keep the cup.”

You can help your Mayor #StompCancer by donating to a local cancer care organization online, in person, or at your local Mayor’s Office. Please quote the Mayor’s name when making your donation so it can be allocated properly.
