McPherson wins Humberstone’s opener Race of Champions

St. Catharines, Ontario’s Cody McPherson was the winner of the 50 lap event for the Ferris Mowers Race of Champions (RoC) Sportsman 602 Series fueled by Sunoco Race Fuels on Davidson Line Marking and Parking Lot Maintenance Night at the New Humberstone Speedway. Jeff Dayman from Welland, Ontario earned his first career win in a late model with the victory in the Pinty’s RUSH Late Models. Jason Fontaine from Port Colborne, Ontario picked up the win in the JC Auto Street Stocks. Dillon Llord from St. Catharines, Ontario won the first feature of the season for the Mike Knapp Ford Pro 4 Trucks. Brandon Iudiciani from Welland, Ontario won the main event for the Cosco Haulage Mini Stocks.

“We had the same setup as we did last night and it was the right call as the car was good all night” said McPherson in victory lane.

“The car and the track were good tonight and I made my way up towards the front” stated runner up finisher Chad Chevalier.

“A little bit of driver error tonight as I clipped a Ute tire but we had a good run” said third place finisher Brad Rouse.

The inaugural visit by the RoC Sportsman would see Brad Rouse and Adam Leslie share the front row for the 50 lap feature event with Rouse showing the way on the opening circuit. Cody McPherson would pass Justin Sharp to take over third with Jay Mallory moving into fourth. McPherson would reel in Leslie for second early on and would battle for several circuits and would complete the pass on lap 13. The leaders would hit lap traffic and McPherson would begin to chip into Rouse’s lead. Chad Chevalier would pass Sharp to move into the fifth spot on lap 21. Rouse continued to show the way over McPherson and Adam Leslie at the halfway point.

Justin Sharp spun in turn three to bring out the races first caution on lap 27. The mid-race restart would see Rouse and McPherson up front and McPherson would pass Rouse on lap 28 to take over the race lead. Fourth generation driver Dylan Davidson raced into fifth place after passing Jay Mallory on lap 30, just as McPherson began to distance himself from early race leader Brad Rouse. Austin Susice slowed on the front straightaway to bring out the caution on lap 37. The restart saw McPherson take off over Rouse with Chevalier passing Leslie for third. Chevalier would then pressure Rouse within the final ten circuits and passed Rouse for second on lap 42.

McPherson would hold off all challenges from Chevalier during the final eight circuits to pick up the victory. Rouse would finish in third and was followed to the line by Jay Mallory and Adam Leslie completing the top five. Young guns Tyler Puchalski, Jordan Cosco, Dylan Davidson finished in sixth, seventh and eighth respectively with Justin Sharp and Jeff Armstrong completing the top ten.

Sam Pennacchio and John McIntire led the field of Pinty’s RUSH Late Models to the green flag with Pennacchio showing the way on the opening take off lap. Colton Ledingham spun in turn two to bring out the caution on lap two. The early race restart would see Pennacchio pull away as the “Keystone State Warrior” Dennis Lunger Jr raced with 2014 divisional champion Paul Grigsby. There was a new race leader on lap seven as Jeff Dayman would take over the lead away from Pennacchio. Lunger would move into second as Grigsby would challenge Lunger for several circuits during the mid-way point of the race. Lunger would go over the edge and lost the second spot. Dayman would drive on to score the win, the first of his Late Model career at Humberstone. Grigsby would get second at the line over Lunger, Pennacchio and Rob Pietz would complete the top five.

Jason Fontaine and Kyle Pelrine shared the front row for the JC Auto Street Stocks feature event with Fontaine showing the way over Pelrine with Bill Bleich Jr, Jeremy May and Dave Bailey running in the top five. Vince Fargnoli moved into fifth after passing May on lap five. Bailey would pass Bleich for second on lap eight and would begin to reel in Fontaine. Bailey and Fontaine would battle for several circuits. Tyler Anderson spun in turn two to bring out the caution on lap 13 to slow the field down for the first time. The caution would come back out once again on lap 14 as Tyler Anderson came to a stop on the outside of turn one. After a lap 14 restart, Andrew Reece and Jeremy May spun on the front stretch to bring out the caution once again. Bleich would go after Fontaine but Fontaine would keep the lead and would score the win over Bleich and Bailey.

Danny Wurster and Craig Vlasic led the Mike Knapp Ford Pro 4 Trucks with Vlasic showing the way early. Dillon Llord raced his way into second and challenged Vlasic for the race lead and would complete the pass on lap three. Llord would increase his lead over the rest of the field as Andy Imbeault would get around Vlasic for second at the halfway mark. Frank Perry would pass Imbeault to take over second with five laps remaining. Dillon Llord would pull away to pick up the win. Perry, Imbeault, Mitch Dumont and Vlasic would complete the top five.

Brandon Iudiciani took off into the lead early on in the main event for the Cosco Haulage Mini Stocks over Olivier Larocque and Garnet Wilson early on. Wilson would look underneath Larocque for second and Kyle Haynes would move into third on lap five. Wilson would reel in race leader Iudiciani at the halfway point but Iudiciani would continue to show the way around the tight Humberstone oval. Iudiciani would hold off Wilson to score the win. Kyle Haynes, Evan Curtis, and Olivier Larocque would complete the top five.
