Meteors battle Blackhawks to 6 – 4 win

fort_erie_meteorsThe Fort Erie Meteors battled the Thorold Blackhawks to a 6 – 4 win in GOJHL Junior B hockey action Thursday night in Thorold.

Thorold’s Matt Holmes led off the scoring at 3:29 in the first period, assists went to Brendan D’Agostino and Jacob Buch. Fort Erie’s Danny Katic evened the score at one apiece at 9:01, assists went to Dakota Miskolczi and Pierre Luc Cote Forget. Cail Cirillo gave the Meteors the lead at 11:21, assists went to Mike Fazio and Andrew Somerville. Danny Katic scored his second goal on the power play at 13:01, assisted by Dakota Miskolczi and Cody Petawabano. Thorold’s Brendan D’Agostino added their second goal at 14:25, assisted by Jake Lloyd. At the end of the first, the Meteors were up 3 – 2.

A tough second period had each team score two goals. Fort Erie’s Alexander Walters led off the second period scoring at 9:42, assisted by Cail Cirillo and Mike Fazio. Dakota Miskolczi added another point for the Meteors at 14:06, assisted by Danny Katic and Pierre Luc Cote Forget. Tholold’s Cal Davis scored an unassisted short-handed goal at 14:58 and Jacob Buch added the Blackhawk’s fourth goal at 19:33, assisted by Brendan D’Agostino. The Meteors were leading 5 – 4 at the end of the second period.

Mike Fazio connected for the Meteors at 12:10 in the third period, the lone goal of the third period, assisted by Alexander Walters and Garrett Jennings, to give the Meteors the 6 -4 win.

The win puts the Fort Erie Meteors one point out of sixth place, just behind the Thorold Blackhawks. For current statistics, see the GOJHL website:

The Fort Erie Meteors are next in action Saturday Dec. 10 against the Niagara Falls Canucks at home in Fort Erie.
