Meteors beat Blackhawks in Saturday night hockey action

The Fort Erie Meteors earned a big 7 – 3 win Saturday night in GOJHL hockey action in Fort Erie against the visiting Thorold Blackhawks.

Thorold scored the only goal of the first period, Trent Sheldon connected at 4:04 assisted by Dante Massi and Brendan Charlton.

Fort Erie came back in the second period scoring four goals to Thorold’s one goal giving them a 4 – 2 lead at the end of the period.

Leading off the Meteors scoring attack, Garrett Jennings scored at 2:33 in the second period assisted by Drew Passero and Andrew Somerville. Marco Lariccia connected on the power play at 4:36, assists went to Andrew Somerville and Logan Werner. Doyle Groulx netted one at 9:55 assisted by Michael Fazio and Drew Passero. Daneil Aspro put one between the goalposts at 19:04 on the power play, assists went to Logan Warner and Andrew Somerville.

Thorold’s lone second period goal came from Matt Maidens at 14:22 assisted by Trevor Neumann and Matthew Dolan.

Fort Erie added three more goals in the third period, the first two came from Drew Passero a minute apart, one at 8:33 and then again on the power play at 9:33. Assists went to Andrew Somerville and Garrett Jennings on the first and Marco Lariccia and Andrew Somerville on the second. Brady Lee connected on the power play for the Meteors last goal of the night at 14:51, assists went to Mike Masotti and Andrew Somerville.

Trevor Neumann netted the third Thorold goal at 13:24, assists went to Daniel Rocco and Camilo Rodrique-Melo.

The Meteors take to the ice again Sunday Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. in Welland against the Junior Canadians, they are in Buffalo on Tuesday Oct. 24/2017 to face the Regals, Friday Oct. 27/2017 in Niagara Falls against the Canucks before facing the Ancaster Avalanche Saturday Oct. 28 at home at the LeisurePlex.

Thorold’s next action is Thursday Oct. 26 in Thorold against the Pelham Panthers.
