Meteors lose game one to Avalanche

The Fort Erie Meteors lost the first game of the first round playoff series against the Ancaster Avalanche in GOJHL playoff action Thursday Mar. 1 in Fort Erie. The Avalanche won 6 – 3.

Ancaster led off the scoring with two unanswered goals late in the first period.

Jeff Lindsay scored a power play goal at 18:13, assists went to Zach Bramwell and Bryce Robertson. Zacah Lawrence scored shortly after at 18:56, assisted by Brad Lindsay and Benjamin Hatanaka.

Owen Burnell of Ancaster led off the second period scoring with a short-handed goal at 7:57, assisted by Benjamin Hatanaka. Owen Norton added Ancaster’s fourth goal on the power play at 12:32, assisted by Jack Wismer and Justin Vertisi. Chase White put the Meteors on the scoreboard at 13:43, assisted by Pierre Luc Cote Forget and Brady Lee. Ancaster’s fifth goal came from Zach Bramwell at 18:28, assisted by Owen Norton and Bryce Roberstson giving the Avalanche a solid 5 – 1 lead going into the third period.

Fort Erie’s Daylon Groulx scored on the power play at 6:36 in the third period, assisted by Danny Katic and Bryce Martin. Ancaster’s Domenic Evangelista scored their sixth and final goal at 11:39, assisted by Nicholas Breault and Adam Meijer. Chase White scored the Meteors’ third goal at 19:10, assisted by Danny Katic and Tyler Hawk.

The first round playoff action continues for the Meteors with the second game against the Avalanche in Ancaster Saturday Mar. 4. Game three in the best-of-seven series is scheduled to be in Fort Erie Monday Mar. 6 in Fort Erie at 7:15 p.m, game four Wednesday Mar. 8 in Ancaster and game five Thursday March 9 at 7:15 p.m. in Fort Erie. Game six, if needed, will be Saturday Mar. 11 in Ancaster.
