Meteors and Panthers sortie ends in 4 – 4 tie

Fort Erie’s Trey Moreau dives into a poke check thwarting a first period breakaway by Pelham’s Chris Webber in GOJHL hockey action Sunday.

The Pelham Panthers and the visiting Fort Erie Meteors battled to a 4 – 4 tie Sunday Nov. 5/2017. The matter couldn’t be decided after two over time periods, both teams earned a point in the standings.

Pelham ended off the first period leading 2 – 0. Adam Scholz scored on the power play at 10:53 assisted by Trevor Meecham and Peter Izzo. Francesco Gigliotti scored their second goal towards the end of the period at 18:57 assisted by Jared Hill and Chris Webber.

In the second period Pelham added two more goals, Fort Erie scored one, the period ending 4 – 1 in favour of Pelham.

Noah Caperchione connected for Pelham at 5:34 in the period, assists went to Matt Ruigrok and Adam Scholz. Marco Lariccia scored the first Meteors goal on the power play at 18:17 assisted by Daniel Nardi and Mike Masotti. Jared Hill connected for Pelham’s fourth goal at 19:00 assisted by Chris Webber.

A three goal comeback later in the third period by the Meteors forced the game into overtime.

Alex McAteer connected for the Meteors at 13:03 assisted by Luca Mazzo and Daniel Nardi. Mike Masotti narrowed the gap at 18:56 assisted by Andrew Somerville and Brady Lee. Mike Masotti scored the tying goal with just 28 seconds left in the third period, assists wen to Daniel Nardi and Brady Lee.

Earlier this week in Golden Horseshoe Division action the Meteors lost 4 – 3 in overtime on their home ice to the Caledonia Corvairs Saturday Nov. 4/2017 and they lost 5 – 2 to the Ancaster Avalanche Sunday Oct. 28/2017 in Ancaster.

In Buffalo Tuesday Oct. 31/2017 the Panthers lost to the Regals 3 – 2 in overtime.

Pelham will be facing the Welland Junior Canadians twice next weekend, Friday Nov. 10 in Pelham at 7:30 p.m. then Sunday Nov. 12 in Welland at 7 p.m.

Fort Erie next faces the Canucks in Niagara Falls Friday Nov. 10/2017 at 7 p.m., they return home Saturday Nov. 11/2017 to face the Thorold Blackhawks at 7:15 p.m.

Currently the Pelham Panthers hold the sixth place position in the Golden Horseshoe Division, the Fort Erie Meteros are tied with Welland Junior Canadians for seventh place. For up-to-date statistics see the GOJHL website:
