Meteors shut out by Falcons

Despite an amazing first period of hockey that had no scoring for either team, the Fort Erie Meteors lost on home ice Saturday night against the visiting St. Catharines Falcons. The Falcons went home with a 5 – 0 win.

Both teams played excellently in the first period, the action was up and down the ice as neither team could connect on several scoring opportunities.

In the second period, the Falcons ran away with the game, scoring four of their five goals. The first came and 2:35 in the second period from Tanner Ferreira, assisted by Dante Copps and Justin Felker. Next, Brandon Skubel connected on the power play at 7:36, assisted by Greg DiTomason and Owen Savory. Tanner Ferreira added his second of the eventing at 18:41, assisted by Justin Felker and James Guest. Jack Venneri added the fourth goal at 19:38, assisted by Jacob Reeves and Noah Perlic.

The St. Catharines Falcons scored a short-handed goal in the third period from Jake Lloyd at 7:00, assisted by Brandon Skubel and Greg DiTomaso to bring their total to five.

In earlier action this week the Meteors picked up an 8 – 3 win over the Buffalo Regals Tuesday Jan. 10 in Buffalo.

The Fort Erie Meteors next action is Friday Jan. 20 in Niagara Falls against the Canucks, then Saturday on home ice against the Thorold Blackhawks.
