Meteors suffer close loss to Falcons Saturday night

fort_erie_meteorsThe Fort Erie Meteors lost a close one to the St. Catharines Falcons Saturday night on home ice. The Falcons took home a 6-5 win after regulation time.

Fort Erie led off the scoring in the first, a goal by Daylon Groulx, assisted by Danny Katic and Jacob Broughton at 4:10. St. Catharines responded twice with two goals from Lucas Smilsky. The first at 10:05 assisted by Tanner Ferreira and Owen Green, the second at 16:24 again assisted by Ferreira and Green.

With a 2-1 lead going into the second, the Falcons scored two unanswered goals to finish the period leading 4-1. The first goal came from James Guest on the power play at 5:20, assisted by Justin Felker with Tanner Ferreira assisting. The second came from Owen Green at 7:46, assisted by Ferreira (his fourth assist of the night, and Lucas Smilsky.

Fort Erie led off the scoring in the third period,  Daylon Groulx adding a point at 1:39, assisted by Andrew Somerville and Danny Katic. St. Catharine’s Owen Green added his second goal of the night at 6:13, assisted by Noah Perlic and Lucas Smilsky. Fort Erie picked up the next two points, a goal by Andrew Somerville on the power play at 9:06, assisted by Daylon Groulx and Bryan Zurowski and a goal by Danny Katic at 15:15, assisted by Daylon Groulx and Andrew Somerville. The Falcon’s Owen Green picked up his hat trick at 17:11, assisted by Lucas Smilsky and Tanner Ferreira.

With the Falcons leading 6-4, the Meteors scored a fifth goal at 18:53 with an extra attacker, Danny Katic scored the goal assisted by Daylon Groulx and Andrew Somerville leaving the Falcons with the 6-5 win.

The Meteors are next in action next Friday Sept. 23 in St. Catharines against the Falcons then Saturday on home ice against Buffalo.
