Meteors win in close contest with Junior Canadians

It was a close contest in GOJHL hockey action Sunday, Dec. 23/2018, at the Welland Arena, in the end, the Meteors prevailed with a 4 – 3 win over the Junior Canadians.

Welland was ahead 2 – 1 at the end of the first period, though, Fort Erie was first on the scoreboard with Alex McAteer’s goal at 3:28. Assists went to Ethan Culp and Kyle Sullivan.

Welland’s Mario Zitella tied it up at 7:18, assisted by Alex Page and Cody Wall. Jarrett Olbruck connected for Welland’s second at 11:22 assisted by Matthew Maidens and Anthony Vigiliatore.

Evan Miller tied it up at two each on a second period power play at 12:03. Assists went to Drew Passero and Luca Marcellitti.

Fort Erie added two more goals in the third to Welland’s one.

Toby Rizzo connected for the Meteors at 5:12, assisted by Jacob Hearne and Drew Passero. Brady Lee netted their fourth goal on the power play at 7:23 assisted by Luca Marcellitti and Evan Miller.

Philippe Angervil scored Welland’s third goal at 14:01 assisted by Michael Arch and Jason Horvat.

The three stars of the game were from the Fort Erie Meteors: Evan Miller, Brady Lee, Luca Marcellitti.

The Fort Erie Meteors were in action at home on Saturday Dec. 22/2018. They lost to the Niagara Falls Canucks 7 – 2.

The Fort Erie Meteors will be off until the New Year, facing the St. Catharines Falcons at the Leisureplex on Saturday, Jan. 05, at 7:15 p.m.

The next time the Welland Junior Canadians hit the ice will be in a home game Sunday, Jan. 6/2019, at 7 p.m. against the Niagara Falls Canucks.
