New dance program for seniors launches at the FirstOntario PAC

FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre press release – The FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre, in partnership with Canada’s National Ballet School and Baycrest Health Sciences, presents Sharing Dance Seniors, a new program that will provide seniors with access to the social and physical benefits of dance.

The program will run in Algoma Central Lobby at the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre for eight weeks beginning on Wednesday, March 25/2020, at 10 a.m. and running through Wednesday, May 13/2020.

Sharing Dance Seniors is an accessible dance program developed to engage older adults in meaningful dance activity that benefits physical, cognitive and overall health. This high-quality professionally-led dance program aims to support overall physical, emotional and social well-being through dance engagement and also aims to build and develop skill and confidence in dance movement for older adults with varying levels of physical and cognitive abilities.

This eight-week program will be delivered through the power of technology and will be facilitated by Maggie Forgeron, a St. Catharines resident with a rich background in dance and a recent graduate of the teacher training program for professional dancers at Canada’s National Ballet School.

“This creative movement class for independently living seniors is designed for those who wish to expand their artistic expression and come together through a shared art experience, with health and fitness as a welcome by-product,” says Maggie Forgeron.
