New process for waiving special event fees

The City or St. Catharines is rolling out a new process to make it easier for local groups to apply to have fees waived for special events held in St. Catharines.

Groups can now apply to have up to 50 per cent of City fees waived associated with running a single or multi-day event in St. Catharines.

Fees can be waived for items managed or operated by the City of St. Catharines, such as park permits and rental fees. Items like liability insurance, building permits and tent rentals are not eligible under the program.

Interested groups can apply online at www.stcatharines.ca/WaivedFees or visit the Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre to complete a paper application form.

“This process is about making it easier for local groups,” said Lori Mambella, manager of programs and culture services. “We’re proud to host so many great festivals and events each year, so we wanted to make it easier for them to apply for assistance.”

Any individual or organization planning on hosting an event in a City park or facility is eligible to apply, but preference will be given to those events which demonstrate community building and creating partnerships. Only one application will be considered per event.

There will be two application windows in 2017. Groups hosting events in 2017 must apply by Friday, March 31 at 4 p.m. Groups planning to host an event in 2018 will be able to apply later this year.

Additional information on the program is available at www.stcatharines.ca/WaivedFees or by calling 905.688.5601 ext. 1923.
