NRPS looking for witness following sexual assault

NRP LogoOn Thursday July 12, 2018 at approximately 3:30 a.m., police were called to an area of Roehampton Ave and Carlton Street in the City of St. Catharines over reports of a collision.

When police arrived they discovered a single vehicle, a 4 door white sedan, that had been involved in a collision with the driver and passenger at the scene.

Subsequent investigation led to the involvement of the Sexual Assault Unit with information from the female passenger that she had been sexually assaulted in the vehicle following the collision.

Police are looking to speak with a witness who may have been in the area during the course of the assault and spoke with the accused.

31-year-old Augustine Murenga of St. Catharines has been charged with the following alleged offences:

– Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle, contrary to section
253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
– Drive with Over 80mgs of Alcohol per 100ml of Blood, contrary to
section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code
– Sexual Assault, contrary to section 271 of the Criminal Code

Murenga was held in custody pending a bail hearing on Friday July 13/2018
