The Ontario Seniors Pickleball Games were held on Tuesday, May 2 at the Vale Health & Wellness Centre. Games ran from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm.
There were 38 participants in the championships this year hosted by the City of Port Colborne. This is the third year the city has hosted the OSGA district 24 championships for the Niagara Region.
“This is the fastest growing sport for seniors,” said Brian Harvey one of the organizers. “If you have ever played any racket sport, this is easier as it is mostly underhand with a whiffle ball.”
The winners from this tournament will advance to Hamilton in August for the Regional Games for South Central, which covers from Markham to Fort Erie.
The OSGA sold t-shirts and donated the proceeds to the YMCA Strong Kids Program, and presented the YMCA with a donation of over $100.00.
“The best part is they are having fun!” said Harvey.
Did you know – Pickleball is also on Participactions 150 Playlist? The City of Port Colborne has registered their Pickleball activities with Participaction. The City offers Pickleball on a drop-in Pay-As-You-Play basis at the YMCA, Every Tuesday & Friday from 1:00-3:00 pm and Thursdays from 10:30-11:30 am & 7:45-9:45 pm.
