Panthers add fifth win over Junior Canadians

The Pelham Panthers have added their fifth win of the season over the Welland Junior Canadians Sunday Feb. 17/2019 with a 5 – 2 win.

Owen Allan opened up the scoring for Pelham at 9:16 in the first period, Chris Webber netted their second at 15:04. Cody Wall put Welland on the scoreboard at 19:21.

Owen Allan put Pelham ahead by two on the power play at 5:13 in the second period. Cody Wall narrowed the gap for the Junior Canadians at 10:59.

Pelham’s Matt Ruigrok added two more goals for Pelham in the third, on at 8:06, the other at 18:36, to take the game 5 – 2.

This puts Pelham ahead five games to one over the Welland Junior Canadians for this season’s matchup.

The Pelham Panthers currently hold the fourth place in the Golden Horseshoe Conference, the Welland Junior Canadians are in seventh place. For current statistics see the GOJHL website: http://pointstreaksites.com/view/gojhl .

The Panthers weekend saw them lose 3 – 2 in double overtime to the Kilty Bs in Hamilton Friday, Feb. 15 and win 6 – 3 over the Lockport Regals Saturday, Feb. 16 in Pelham.

Pelham goals in the Hamilton game came from Brendan Charlton and Noah Caperchione.

In the win over Lockport, Pelham goal scorers were Matt Ruigrok for two, Wyatt Thole, Nathan Gallen, Owen Allan and Mark Honchar.

With the regular season just one week away from the end, the Pelham Panthers will be on the ice three times this week, Monday, Feb. 18 in Hamilton against the Kilty Bs, Friday, Feb. 22 in Niagara Falls against the Canucks. They will then face the St. Catharines Falcons on Sunday, Feb. 24, at 2:30 p.m. in Pelham for the final game of their season.

For the Junior Canadians, this week will see them face the Fort Erie Meteors twice, Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Welland, then Saturday, Feb. 23, at 7:15 p.m. in Fort Erie. The Junior Canadians final game of the season will be on home ice Sunday, Feb. 24, at 7:00 p.m against the Niagara Falls Canucks.
