Panthers came back in third for narrow win over Meteors

Pelham’s Nathan Gallen and Fort Erie’s Marco Lariccia battle for the puck during first hockey period action Saturday night in Fort Erie.

The Pelham Panthers were behind most of the night, but, two third period goals gave them a narrow 2 – 1 win over the Fort Erie Meteors in GOJHL hockey action Saturday, Feb. 9/2019.

The Meteors’ Brannon Butler netted their lone goal about halfway through the first period, assists went to Anthony Gigliotti and Jayden Baldinelli.

There was no scoring in the second period. The Meteors’ lead continued past the halfway point of the third period.

Adam Scholz put the Pelham Panthers on the scoreboard at 11:55, assists went to Noah Caperchione and Matt Ruigrok. Brendan Charlton scored the game winner for the Panthers at 13:48, assisted by Wyatt Thole and Mike Butterfield.

The Panthers fell to the St. Catharines Falcons last Sunday Feb. 3/2019. After two periods of overtime, the game ended 4 – 3 for the Falcons.

Panther goals came from Thomas Young, Nathan Gallen and Chris Webber. Falcons goals came from Bryce Robertson for two, Andrew Somerville and Carson Edwardson.

Pelham’s next action is on Sunday, Feb. 10/2019, in Pelham against the Niagara Falls Canucks.

The Meteors also fell to St. Catharines this week, Friday Feb. 8/2019, in St. Catharines. The Falcons won 6 – 1. Falcons goals came from Carson Edwardson for two, Joseph Colassurdo, Noah Blakely, Mike Massoti and Xavier Drummond. The lone Meteors goal came from Marco Lariccia.

Fort Erie’s upcoming week sees them in Lockport Wednesday, Feb. 13/2019, to face the Regals, then in Niagara Falls against the Canucks on Friday, Feb. 15/2019. They then face the Welland Junior Canadians at the Leisureplex at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16/2019.
