Panthers earn shutout win over Meteors

The Pelham Panthers won 4 – 0 over the visiting Fort Erie Meteors in GOJHL hockey action Sunday Jan. 6/2019 in Pelham.

The first period was a back-and-forth battle on the ice, Thomas Young’s power play goal at 7:29 assisted by Curtis Emery and Chris Webber gave them a 1 – 0 lead to the end of the period.

Chris Webber connected on a power play late in the second period at 16:45 putting Pelham ahead 2 – 0. Assists went to Wyatt Thole and Jackson Barrett.

The next two Pelham goals came in the second half of the third period.

The first came from Wyatt Thole at 13:44, assisted by Curtis Emery and Adam Scholz. The second came from Curtis Emery at 18:42, assists went to Brendan Charlton and Wyatt Thole.

The Pelham Panthers currently hold the fourth place position in the Golden Horseshoe Conference, the Fort Erie Meteors sixth place. For current statistics see the GOJHL website: .

This is the Panther’s second time on the ice in the new year, on Jan. 2/2019, they picked up a 4 – 2 win in Lockport over the Regals. Panther goals came from Zach Thompson and Wyatt Thole for two each.

The Panthers are next in action Thursday, Jan. 10, at 7 p.m. in Thorold against the Blackhawks. Then they face the Welland Junior Canadians at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 11, at the Meridian Community Centre.

The Meteors also were on the ice for the second time in 2019. In Fort Erie on Saturday Jan. 5, they lost 10 – 1 to the St. Catharines Falcons.

Fort Erie’s lone goal came from Drew Passero.

Carson Edwardson and Christian Girhiny, each scored hat tricks for the Falcons, Dakota Miskolczi and Jacob Roach scored two goals each.

The Meteors next action is Thursday, Jan. 10, in Hamilton against the Kilty Bs. They will be at home again on Saturday, Jan. 12, at 7:15 p.m. against the Niagara Falls Canucks.
