Panthers finish season with loss to Junior Canadians

The Pelham Panthers have ended their regular season play Friday night, losing 6-2 to the Welland Junior Canadians.

The first period was scoreless, both teams battling to take control, Welland outshot Pelham 23 to 7.

Pelham’s Bradley Smith led off the scoring in the second period at 0:44, assisted by Liam Little and Jeffrey Venzon. Welland’s Tyler Stranges put them on the scoreboard at 10:02, assisted by Jack Fitzgerald and Nicholas Boehmer. Jack Fitzgerald put Welland ahead at 13:55, assisted by Steven Farano and Tyler Stranges. Pelham tied the score at two apiece with a goal by Liam Little at 18:03, assisted by Dylan Cancilla and Cameron DeFazio.

Welland scored four unanswered goals in the third period to win the game 6-2. The first was at 2:31 from Nicholas Boehmer, assisted by Patrick Deshardins and Jack Fitzgerald. The second came from Patrick Desjardins at 6:38, assisted Matt Martin and Bradey Johnson. Desjardins scored again on the power play at 9:57, assisted by Dylan Daigneault and Andy Paul. Cole Hamilton picked up the period’s fourth goal, Welland’s sixth, at 17:30, assisted by Dylan Daigneault.

The shots on net tally at the end of the night was 54 on Welland, compared to 31 for Pelham.

The regular season is over now for the Pelham Panthers who will be playing game one of the first round of playoffs Friday March 4 against the Caledonia Corvairs in Pelham.

The Welland Junior Canadians take on the Fort Erie Meteors for their last game of the season in Welland.
