Panthers lose game one of first round playoffs to Falcons

Panthers Falcons logosThe St. Catharines Falcons have taken game one with a 5 – 3 win Wednesday Mar. 1 over the Pelham Panthers in round one GOJHL playoff hockey action in Pelham.

The Panthers took the first period with two unanswered goals giving them a 2 – 0 lead.

Matt Ruigrok netted the first one at 10:11, assists went to Shane Donovan and London Murray. Their second goal came from Orion Hexamer at 18:58, assisted by London Murray and Ryan Mahshie.

In the second period the Falcons took over the scoring as they scored four unanswered goals to take a 4 – 2 lead.

The first came from Romaeo D’Intino at 5:15, assisted by Justin Felker and James Guest. Lucas Smilsky scored their second at 5:59, assists went to Greg DiTomaso and John DiLorenzo. Jack Webb netted the third goal at 10:11, assisted by Tanner Ferreira and Greg DiTomaso. Tanner Ferriera connected for their fourth goal on the power play at 14:26, assisted by Riley McCourt and Zach Main.

The third period both teams scored one each toward the end of the period to bring the total to 5 – 3 for the Falcons.

Jack Webb netted the St. Catharines goal on the power play at 18:35, assisted by Justin Felker. Thomas Young netted the Pelham goal at 19:21, assisted by Max Blanchard and Matt Ruigrok.

Game two of the best-of-seven playoff round is scheduled for Friday Mar. 3 in St. Catharines at 7 p.m., game three Sunday Mar. 5 in Pelham at 1:30 p.m. Games four and five are in St. Catharines Tuesday Mar. 7, 7 p.m., and Friday Mar. 10 at 7 p.m. Game six if needed is scheduled for Sunday March 12 at 1:30 p.m. in Pelham and game seven Monday Mar. 13 at 7 p.m. in St. Catharines.
