Panthers battle Meteors to 5 – 2 win

Pelham’s Nicholas Kidd makes a big save against a first period breakaway by Ethan Culp of the Fort Erie Meteors in Sunday GOJHL hockey action.

The Pelham Panthers encounter with the visiting Fort Erie Meteors Sunday Sept. 30/2018 ended with the Panthers adding a 5 – 2 win to their record this season.

After a scoreless first period, the Panthers exploded to a 4 – 1 lead. Pelham’s goals came within a three minute span. Mack Honchar led off Panther’s scoring at 13:57 assisted by Zach Thomson and Matt Ruigrok. Their next came at 14:22 from Lyall Shaw assisted by Devon Suanders and Liam Sodtke. A minute later Brodie Thoms connected, assists went to Chri Webber and Matt Ruigrok. Adam Scholz netted the fourth goal at 16:44 assisted by Matt Ruigrok and Noah Caperchione.

Fort Erie got on the scoreboard at 19:38 with a goal from Michael Fazio assisted by Ethan Culp.

Each team added one in the third period. Pelham’s goal came from Devon Saunders unassisted, Fort Erie’s goal from Evan Miller assisted by Anthony Gigliotti and Luca Mazzo.

In Panthers hockey action Friday Sept. 28, the Niagara Falls Canucks took the win 5 – 4 in Niagara Falls.

Panther goals came from: Noah Caperchione, Adam Scholz, and Chris Webber for two.

The Fort Erie Meteors battled the Thorold Blackhawks on Thursday Sept. 27 then lost 4 – 3 to the Hamilton Kilty Bs on Fort Erie’s ice Saturday Sept. 29.

The Meteors next see action Friday Oct. 5 in St. Catharines against the Falcons, then they face the Pelham Panthers in Fort Erie Saturday Oct. 6 at 7:15 p.m. The Panthers have no other games scheduled before this engagement.
