Panthers win latest skirmish with Meteors

In the fourth engagement of this season the Pelham Panthers won 6 – 4 over the Fort Erie Meteors at the Leisureplex Saturday Dec. 16/2017.

Fort Erie was victorious over Pelham in their meetings on Oct. 14/2017 and Nov. 19/2017, the game on Nov. 5/2017 ended in a tie after two overtime periods.

The first period was a tough battle along the boards ending in a scoreless tie.

After outshooting the Meteors 12 – 8 the second period ended with Pelham leading 4 – 1.

The Meteors were first on the scoreboard with a goal from Marco Lariccia at 2:27 assisted by Luca Mazzo.

Chad Maurice netted the first Panther goal at 9:48 assisted by Petetr Izzo and Kurt Villani. Kurt Villani netted the next one at 12:24 with assists going to Peter Izzo and Ryan Ellis. Naoha Caperchione connected on the power play at 17:17 assisted by Kurt Villani and Matt Ruigrok. Adam Scholz netted the fourth Panther goal on the power play at 17:50 with assists going to Mike Butterfield and Kurt Villani.

In the third period the Meteors outshot the Panthers 18 – 6 and outscored the Panthers 3 – 2.

Brady Lee led off the Meteors third period scoring at 1:18 with assists going to Andrew Somerville and Mike Masotti.

The next two goals of the third period came from Pelham. Thomas Young connected at 1:28 assisted by Noah Caperchione and Matt Ruigrok. Matt Ruigrok scored their sixth goal 23 seconds later assisted by Noah Caperchione and Tristan Burr.

Fort Erie’s third goal came from Nolan Lynds at 2:28 with assists going to Daniel Nardi and Michael Fazio. The scoring ended just past the halfway mark in the third period with Daniel Aspro’s goal at 11:25 assisted by Daniel Nardi and Tyson Moore.

In the Golden Horseshoe Division, the Pelham Panther hold the seventh place position, the Fort Erie Meteors the eighth place spot. For statistics see the GOJHL website: .

Pelham is next in action Sunday Dec. 17/2017 at 2:30 p.m. against Ancaster.

Fort Erie’s next action is Sunday Dec. 17/2017 in Welland against the Junior Canadians at 7 p.m., then Friday Dec. 22/2017 in St. Catharines against the Falcons.

Next Saturday night, Dec. 23/2017, Fort Erie and Pelham will face each other for the fifth time this season.
