Pig roast fundraiser helps raise funds for the hungry

People need help all year round and the 2nd annual Port Cares Brews and Beans Pig Roast is a chance to help support those people in need.

The five-hour event raises funds that help fund the vital services that are needed by the community’s most vulnerable, the families, the children, that rely on the Port Cares Reach Out Centre to survive from day-to-day.

In the community the need is great. In 2018, 172,148 lbs of food were distributed to people in need, 7,753 plates were served through the kitchen and 1,742 school lunch kits totalling 8,240 lunches were distributed between Sept. 2018 – June 2019.

“We’re looking forward to hosting this fun-filled event at the Reach Out Centre,” said Port Cares executive director Christine Clark Lafleur. “It will feel like a back-yard party but better because every dollar raised will fund our ability to keep the Reach Out Centre’s doors open.”

“We rely solely on fundraising and donations to provide food bank, meal and crisis intervention services to families and individuals in need,” she said. “The proceeds from the 2nd annual Brews and Beans Pig Roast will go along ways to helping Port Cares and the Reach Out Centre help those who are truly in need.”

The 2nd annual POrt Cares Brews and Beans Pig Roast will be on Friday, Sept. 6/2019 from 6:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. at the Port Cares Reach Out Centre, 61 Nickel St. Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased in advance at Port Cares, 92 Charlotte St.

The event features selected brews from Breakwall Brewing Company and live entertainment by Guilty Pleasures.
