Police in foot pursuit in Port Colborne

Niagara Regional Police were involved in a foot pursuit in a wooded area off of Hwy. 140 and Ramey Rd. in Port Colborne sometime near 3:30 a.m. Friday.
Port Colborne Fire and Emergency Services were called to the area for the report of a possible structure fire. Once on scene, the fire service found a fire on the railroad tracks that run behind Wainfleet Box & Pallet Ltd. and Drop ‘N Lock Self Storage. It was unclear what the fire was, but firefighters let it burn itself out.
Police officers, including a K9 unit, were in the area searching for a person(s). There were cruisers stationed at Barber Drive and Main Street by the Jacknife Bridge, one at Second Concession at Hwy. 140, and at least one on Third Concession west of Hwy. 140. One police SUV was driving up Hwy. 140 and pulled into the Miller Group maintenance yard where plows were getting ready to head out on the road.
There was no information as to what the person(s) was being pursued for, though there was a truck left in a field near the entrance to Wainfleet Box & Pallet Ltd. with the driver’s door open, headlights and interior lights on.

A 45 year old Wainfleet man was arrested Friday morning after a Niagara Regional Police K9 unit tracked him for 2.5 kilometres through farmers’ fields and into a wooded area in rural Port Colborne.
