Players and coaches of Port Colborne Midget/Intermediate girls Wave hockey team were recognized in last Monday’s meeting of Port Colborne council, celebrating their undefeated season and championship win.

The Port Colborne Midget/Intermediate girls Wave hockey team was recognized in last Monday’s regular meeting of Port Colborne council for their undefeated regular season play in the Greater Hamilton Girls Hockey League.

“This is the first year the girls were in the Greater Hamilton Girls Hockey League,” Deputy Mayor Bea Kenny said. “Through their regular season they went undefeated at 20 wins.”

“That is quite an accomplishment,” she said. “There were 24 teams in this age group.”

“In the championship game, just last night (last Sunday), they beat out first place Grimsby 3-0 to win the championship,” she said.

This made the team the GHGHL division champs for the 2015/2016 season.

“It’s great to see the team, they are a great team and we are hoping to see some of these players on our Canadian Olympic team,” Kenny said.

Deputy Mayor Bea Kenny and Counc. John Mayne presented certificates to the team and coached on behalf of the City of Port Colborne celebrating their success.
