Port Colborne hosted a special visitor on Saturday Dec. 1/2018 as Santa Claus dropped by to check up on his favourite children.

“These children in Port Colborne hold a special place in my heart,” Santa said after the parade was finished Saturday night. “Even though it rained, they all came out to see me.”

Santa was in Port Colborne just making sure that all the kids have written their letter to him this year.

“I have to make sure my elves had made all the toys needed for all the good boys and girls in Port Colborne so I told them all that I talked to today to make sure they write their letter,” he said.

Santa arrives by tugboat Saturday.

Santa arrived in Port Colborne by tugboat Saturday afternoon. He led all the boys and girls from the canal to the Guild Hall, visited with each and made sure to get their special Christmas wish. After the parade Santa met with the children he missed in the afternoon.

“The thing I really like about Port Colborne is how nice all the boys and girls are,” Santa said. “I look forward to my visit with them every year.”

Santa will be around Port Colborne Sunday Dec. 2 at the Port Colborne Historical and Marine Museum for the Grand Old Christmas Festival from noon to 4 p.m. He will next be in Niagara on Dec. 8 in Pelham.

Before he heads back to the North Pole before Christmas he had this message for the children, “Always listen at home and at school and be good for your parents and teachers, and make sure you go to bed early on Christmas Eve.”

“Oh, and don’t forget to leave out the milk and cookies,” he said. “I like all cookies, but, macaroons are my absolute favourite.”

Port Colborne’s Annual Lighted Santa Claus parade had an amazing turnout with 54 entries in this year’s parade.

“It was just an amazing parade, really unbelievable,” Michelle Cuthbert, corporate communications officer for the City of Port Colborne said. “Everyone really stepped it up, the entries were amazing.”
