Ravens take games 3 and 4: series tied with Whalers

Jakob Reeves of the Niagara Whalers ties up Lucas Pozzobon of the St. George Ravens in GMHL playoff hockey action Friday night in Port Colborne.

The St. George Ravens have evened it up this week in the GMHL South Division Championship best of seven series with the Niagara Whalers.

The Whalers were ahead 2 – 0 in the series before the beginning of game three Wednesday Mar. 14/2018 in Port Colborne.

The Ravens won game three 9 – 5.

At the end of the first, the Ravens were ahead 2 – 0. In the second period, the Whalers scored four goals, the Ravens two ending the period in a 4 – 4 tie. The third period had the Ravens outscoring the Whalers 5 – 1 for the 9 – 5 game win.

Whaler goals came from: Patrick Desjardins, David Christopher, Steven Farano, Brandon Lindberg and Frolov Mikhail.

In Friday Mar. 16/2018 action in Port Colborne, the Ravens took game four 9 – 7.

At the end of the first the Ravens were leading 6 – 1. The Whaler came back in the second, the score closed to 7 – 5 for the Ravens at the end of the second. Two more goals each in the third period brought the score to 9 – 7 for St. George.

Four of the Raven’s goals came from Lucas Pozzobon.

The Whaler goals came from: Zach Main for three, Brandon Lindberg for two, David Christopher and Nick Pastorious.

Game five of the series is Saturday Mar. 17/2018 in St. George, game six, Sunday Mar. 18/2018 in Port Colborne at 7 p.m. Game seven if needed is Tuesday Mar. 20/2018 at the South Durnfries Community Centre in St. George.

The winner of the series will go to face the North Division Champions the Almaquin Spartans, who beat the Bradford Rattlers in four straight, for the Russell Cup league championship.
