Rescheduled food drive takes place Saturday

Last week’s weather caused many problems in Port Colborne, one of which was the cancellation of the Port Colborne Wainfleet Lions Club Food Drive which benefits Port Cares.

The food drive has been rescheduled for this Saturday, Nov. 8/2019.

Residents are reminded to leave out their donations of non-perishable food items and toiletry items to be picked up by volunteers by 9 a.m. Saturday morning. Volunteers will be covering routes all over the city on Saturday morning, collecting the food to be distributed to people in need through Port Cares.

“The food collected through the Port Colborne Lions Food drive is absolutely critical to our ability to support families with children through the winter months,” said Christine Clark Lafleur, Executive Director, Port Cares. “Every winter we see an increase in the number of families with young children having to come to the food bank for support as they struggle with making ends meet.”

“Housing and rent affordability is primarily driving the need for help,” she said. “Young families are having to make the hard choice of whether to buy nutritious healthy food for their kids or pay their rent, hydro and gas bills.”

“We are truly appreciative of all the efforts of the amazing volunteers with the Port Colborne Lions Club and the generous residents of Port Colborne and Wainfleet. Your efforts make a true difference in the lives of so many in our community,” she said.
