Both Welland and Port Colborne hosted fun family events to help ring in the New Year.

In Port Colborne, the Annual New Year’s Eve Family Celebration at the Vale Health and Wellness Centre was a huge success.

“It’s great to see all these families here having fun,” said City of Port Colborne event coordinator Gina Murdoch. “We couldn’t do this without our army of volunteers and dedicated staff.”

“Each year the event keeps getting better and better,” Port Colborne Mayor John Maloney said. “There’s so much to see and do here for everyone.”

In Welland, the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council (MYAC) and Welland Recreation and Culture’s event the 17th Annual Children’s New Year’s Eve Bash was a huge success.

“People were lined up waiting to get in,” said Vani Sharma, MYAC Chair. “It’s so wonderful to see all of these Welland families here enjoying themselves.”

Both events were capped off with a fireworks show.

For New Year’s Day, all are invited to Port Colborne City Hall from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for the Mayor’s New Year’s Levee in Council Chambers. Light refreshments will be served.

In St. Catharines, Mayor Walter Sendzik and councillors will be celebrating a New Year’s Levee with the Lincoln and Welland Regiment and the 10th Battery Royal Canadian Artillery at the Lake St. Armoury (81 Lake St.) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. All are welcome to attend. The traditional toast takes place at 11:45 a.m. followed by the firing of the cannon at noon.
