Significant snowfall now expected for later today

Environment Canada issued a snowfall alert yesterday that said snow was expected to begin Monday morning Jan. 29/2018. That has been changed to a warning having snow begin Monday afternoon and evening.

“Winter returns with a 15 to 20 cm snowfall today and tonight,” the warning says.

“A seemingly benign cold front and associated weak low is arriving over Southern Ontario today as winter returns to the area,” it says. “The frontal zone is forecast to become active as moisture combined with sufficient instability will generate an appreciable snowfall. Snow will gradually develop across the regions throughout the day. The snow will become heavier this afternoon and evening before tapering off overnight.”

The warning warns that snowfall amounts of 15 to 20 cm are expected within the South Niagara region and that motorists should be aware and be prepared to adjust their driving with the changing road conditions.
