Snowfall warning issued for Niagara

Environment Canada has upgraded its special weather statement to a snowfall warning for Niagara, snow expected to move in overnight and into Saturday, Jan. 18/2020.

“Snow is expected to move into the area overnight as a low-pressure system approaches. Snow will be heavy at times Saturday morning and afternoon,” the warning said. “The snow will transition to rain Saturday evening before changing to light flurries overnight Saturday night. Total snowfall amounts near 15 cm are likely.”

The warning also said: “Winds gusting up to 50 km/h will create areas of blowing snow giving reduced visibilities, particularly Saturday afternoon.”

The warning says that with the heavy snow and winds, visibility may be suddenly reduced and travelers should be prepared for quickly changing and deteriorating road conditions.
