Soups On! tickets, a great stocking stuffer

If you are still looking for that perfect item for stuffing in the stocking for the discerning friend, consider purchasing Soups On! tickets.

It’s that time of year again as winter sets in, the menu gets set for the popular 17th annual St. Kevin Social Justice Scholarship Committee Soups On! fundraising event.

“Simmering bowls raise funds for post-secondary school scholarships,” a prss release from the committee said.  “They will go to graduating students active in social justice projects at their schools and in the community.”

The event will be held on Friday, Jan. 25/2019, at St. Kevin Parish Hall, 303 Niagara St., Welland.

Soups are prepared by culinary students from local high schools, Niagara College and one local business.

On the 2019 soup menu are:

  • Niagara College Food and Wine Institute, butternut squash;
  • Lakeshore Catholic High School, Thai coconut pumpkin;
  • Eastdale Secondary, French vegetable pistou;
  • École secondaire Confédération, French Canadian pea soup and Borscht with shredded beef;
  • Blessed Trinity Catholic, Sweet potato, maple and chestnut;
  • Notre Dame College School, Mexican pozole.
  • and Stephanie the Lunch Lady will serve loaded baked potato soup.

There are three sittings available, 11 a.m., noon, and 1 p.m. Tickets are $10 each. They are available through the St. Kevin Church office (Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m), or by calling ticket convenor Bernie Barkovich.

“Over the years, social justice committee organizers have presented more than $45,000 in scholarships,” the press release said. “Last June, $1,000 scholarships each were awarded to four applicants from École secondaire catholique Jean-Vanier, Blessed Trinity Catholic Secondary School, Notre Dame College School, and E. L. Crossley Secondary School.”
