Spring programs offered at Bridges

Bridges Community Health Centre is offering a variety of no cost health and wellness programs to kick off spring.

All groups will be held in the community room at 177 King St., Port Colborne. To register for a program or workshop or for more information, please call 289-479-5017 ext. 2421, drop by the reception desk or visit www.bridgeschc.ca. Space is limited for some programs.

Here is a sampling of what is being offered:
• A Mindfulness-based approach to coping can be of benefit to anyone and is proven to be helpful for people with chronic pain, anxiety or depression. An Orientation/Registration session will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. The eight-week program will start on Wednesday, April 29, 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

• Take walking to a whole new level and enjoy the increased health benefits by adding Nordic poles. Our weekly Nordic Walking group program will be held on Fridays, 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., starting on May 1.

• In our Eat Smart for Your Heart workshop, discover foods to eat for a healthy heart; helpful for people with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart problems or anyone who wants to learn how to eat to keep your heart healthy. The workshop will be held on Thursday, May 14, 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

• Self Acceptance: Shifting from Criticism to Compassion is a full day workshop for people who tend to be hard on themselves. The workshop will focus on ineffective ways we attempt to protect or motivate ourselves with judgment or striving to do better, and provides exercises to increase our self-acceptance, self-care, and self-compassion. The session will be held on Thursday, April 23, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; light lunch provided.

• Thinking about quitting smoking? Join our two week group and learn strategies to develop a successful quit plan. Eligible participants can receive five weeks of nicotine replacement therapy (patch, gum or inhaler). The group will be held on Wednesday, May 12 and 19, 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

• Our popular Coffee Club is a drop-in social group for adults of any age. Come by for a coffee and snack, meet new friends, and enjoy games and conversation. The group is held every Monday (except holidays), 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., all are welcomed.
