Third annual Wave Frenzy Hockey Tournament finals

Over the last three days 23 teams from Ontario and New York played 41 games in the 3rd Annual Port Colborne Wave Frenzy Hockey Tournament at the Port Colborne Vale Centre.

The first puck dropped at noon on Saturday of the Family Day weekend to start the tournament. This year the high-packed action tournament drew in teams from Woodstock, Kitchener, London, Peterbourgh, Stoney Creek, Brampton, Tillsonburg, Lakeshore, Sudbury, Cambridge, Ancaster, Webster, NY, Barrie, Oshawa, Hamilton, Finger Lakes, NY, LaSalle,  North Halton and Port Colborne. This year there was an increase of teams from 17 to 23. There were seven teams competing in the intermediate division, four in Peewee, four in the atom, four in the Bantam and four in the midget division.

Ken Breitenbach, Port Colborne Wave Bantam Coach said, “We had one of the semi-final games ending in double overtime, with 3 on 3, which is fantastic. It was quite a game, everyone was out there watching. It was a nail bitter.”

All teams played a minimum of three games. After the 41 games of hockey, the following won their divisions:

  • Atom – London Devilettes White
  • Peewee – Stoney Creek Sabres
  • Bantam – Sudbury Phoenix
  • Intermediate – Port Colborne Wave
  • Midget – Barrie Sharks
