Third period comeback earns Panthers win over Meteors

Pelham’s Anthony Gigliotti and Fort Erie’s Nathan Ellis tangle when after a loose puck in first period GOJHL action Saturday night in Fort Erie.

The Pelham Panthers were behind the Meteors 2 – 1 going into the third period Saturday Oct. 13/2018 at the Fort Erie Leisureplex. Three unanswered goals in the third period put the score 4 – 2 in the Panthers favour for the win.

Fort Erie scored the lone goal late in a hard fought first period. Marco Lariccia connected with one minute and three seconds left, assisted by Brady Lee and Evan Miller.

In the second period, Noah Caperchione put Pelham on the scoreboard about a quarter into the period with assists going to Matt Ruigrok and Zach Thompson.

Luca Mazzo put Fort Erie ahead 2 – 1 with his goal at 12:40, assists went to Drew Passero and Trey Moreau.

In the third period, Pelham’s first two goals were on power plays. The first came at 6:59 from Thomas Young assisted by Ntahan Ellis and Nicholas Kidd. The second came at 9:27 assisted by Noah Caperchione and Matt Ruigrok.  Thomas Young connected for his second of the night at 13:40 assisted by Nathan Ellis and Adam Scholz.

The Panthers lost earlier this week, the Thorold Blackhawks beat them 3 – 2 Thursday Oct. 11 in Thorold.

Thorold goals came from Nick Gidney for two and Sam VanderZalm. Both Pelham goals came from Brodie Thoms.

The Pelham Panthers are next in action Sunday Oct. 14 at the Meridian Community Centre at 2:30 p.m. They face off against the first place Niagara Falls Canucks. The Meteors lost 4 – 1 when they faced the Hamilton Kilty Bs on Thursday Oct. 11. Logan Warner scored the Fort Erie goal.

They are next in action Wednesay Oct. 17 in Lockport against the Regals, then Saturday Oct. 20 at the Leisureplex at 7:15 p.m. against the Hamilton Kilty Bs.
