Two 14 year olds were arrested and charged with arson in connection with a fire this past Monday in Welland.
Niagara Regional Police said the two, who can’t be named due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, were arrested on Thursday and Friday.
Welland Fire and Emergency Services firefighters were called to 111 Victoria St. Monday just before 9 p.m. for the report of a structure fire.
Flames were coming through the roof of a building, believed to be a  former Vaughn Seed Co. garage or storage shed, when firefighters arrived.
Welland deputy fire chief Brian Kennedy said the fire, which caused $30,000 in damage, was suspicious in nature and police were investigating.
Police investigators received information from several witnesses and were able to confirm the fire had been deliberately set.
Investigators also learned an accelerent, stolen from a nearby variety store, had been used to start the fire.
Thursday, a 14 year old Welland resident was arrested and charged with arson. They were released from custody after a bail hearing Friday.
Police said a second 14 year old was arrested and charged with arson in relation to the fire. That person was later released on conditions intended to prevent involvement in further criminal incidents, said police.
