The firefighters of the Wainfleet Firefighters Association were being good Christmas elves Friday, Dec. 20/2019, as they assembled baskets with donated food and toys for needy families in the community.

“A great job by the community for coming together donating food, toys, and money. This helped us put food and toy baskets together for 31 families and 71 children,” said firefighter Conrad Beckingham in a post on social media.

The baskets were distributed to the families in need Saturday in time for these people to have a better Christmas.

Association secretary Chuck Farkas discussed the importance of the program.

“Community is everything,” he said. “Each year we address families in need with our Christmas basket.”

“Our community is the strength of what we can facilitate this time of year. Our Association members (who are all volunteer firefighters) collect, sort and distribute to the families that have been identified through external sources in need,” he said.

“The community of Wainfleet supports us throughout the year on a number of fronts,” he said. “This is one way we give back to the community.”
