Wainfleet resident arrested for weapons offences

On Sunday, May 20/2018, the Niagara Regional Police Service received information that a male was hunting in a field in the area of Forks Road and Gents Road in Wainfleet when a firearm is alleged to have been discharged in his direction. There were no injuries to the complainant.

The Investigators assigned to the 3 District Detective Branch entered into an investigation and as a result of the information gathered, a search warrant was obtained for a residence located on Gents Road. Due to the situation involving a firearm, the assistance of the Emergency Task Unit was requested.

On May 22, 2018 Police executed a search warrant at the Gents Road address. Upon entry to the residence 73-year-old Ivan Vrbicek was arrested for the alleged offence of Careless Use of a Firearm. During the search of the residence additional items were found to prompt the further charges of Careless Storage of a Firearm and Careless Storage of Ammunition.

Vrbicek was released on an Officer in Charge Promise to Appear with an assigned court date.
