Weekend losses for Junior Canadians and Meteors

Both the Welland Junior Canadians and the Fort Erie Meteors had losses this weekend in GOJHL hockey action in South Niagara.

In Welland Sunday Feb. 19, the Welland Junior Canadians lost 5 – 0 to the visiting St. Catharines Falcons.

The Fort Erie Meteors lost 4 – 0 to the visiting Caledonia Corvairs Saturday Feb. 18.

In action Friday Feb. 17, the Welland Junior Canadians lost against the Niagara Falls Canucks in Niagara Falls.

Welland’s goals in the Nagara Falls game came from:

  • Michael Tilbury, assisted by Trevor LeDonne and Matt Martin;
  • Noah Bollert, assisted by Trevor LeDonne and Ryan Miotto.

Currently the Fort Erie Meteors hold the fifth place position in the Golden Horseshoe Conference, the Welland Junior Canadians sixth. Check current statistics on the GOJHL website: http://pointstreaksites.com/view/gojhl .

Because the Thorold Blackhawks announced recently that they won’t be able to finish the season, the Meteors get a bit of a break. They were scheduled for a Monday game and a Thursday game this week with Thorold. The games will result in a forfeit by Thorold. So, the Fort Erie Meteors are next in action Saturday Feb. 25 in Niagara Falls against the Canucks.

The Welland Junior Canadians and the Fort Erie Meteors both finish the regular season play on Sunday Feb. 26 when they face each other in Welland at 7 p.m.
