Chamber of Marine Commerce press release –  The Chamber of Marine Commerce and Canada Steamship Lines (CSL) are offering freighter fans the chance to win a trip on one of the new eco ships now transporting cargo on the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence system.

Great Lakes-St. Lawrence ship operators are investing more than $4 billion on modernizing their fleets with cutting-edge technologies that significantly reduce marine shipping carbon and air emissions and improve navigation and crew safety. A study released in July showed that maritime commerce in the bi-national Great Lakes-St. Lawrence region in 2017 supported 328,500 jobs and $60 billion in economic activity in Canada and the U.S.

The Chamber of Marine Commerce is pleased to be partnering with CSL on the “Win A Trip on A Great Lakes Ship” contest as part of its third summer program to raise awareness in Ontario of marine shipping’s investment in innovation and environmental stewardship.

The contest will be the star attraction starting Saturday at the Chamber of Marine Commerce’s booth at the 40th Annual Canal Days Marine Heritage Festival in Port Colborne, on West Street between Victoria and Kent Street. The Chamber is also sponsoring the Empire Sandy cruises during the festival.

Bruce Burrows, President of the Chamber of Marine Commerce, said: “The Chamber has been a proud sponsor of Canal Days for many years and we’re looking forward to once again giving festival attendees a rare chance to win a trip on a world-class 21st century Great Lakes freighter. This is an amazing opportunity to see how these new ships have been designed to reduce their environmental footprint and how the crew lives and works as they support commercial trade in Canada.”

Ontario residents that are 18 or older will have the opportunity to fill out an entry at the booth for a chance to win the prize — the opportunity for the confirmed winner and one (1) guest to participate in a one and half day experience aboard a CSL Trillium-class vessel between September 15/2018 and October 31/2018 or May/2019 and October 31/2019.

Full Details of the contest prize and rules are available at http://www.marinedelivers.com/shipcontest.html.

The contest will also be available to enter on the Chamber’s website at http://www.marinedelivers.com/ship-contest.html until August 20, 2018 at [18:00] p.m. ET. The eligible winner will be drawn on August 23/2018 at approximately 10:00 a.m. ET.
