From a year of change to a year of exciting opportunities

The Mayor’s Report with Wainfleet Mayor April Jeffs

Wainfleet Mayor April Jeffs

By Mayor April Jeffs – As 2016 draws to a close, I am pleased to take this opportunity to share some the highlights from this past year and my thoughts as I look ahead to the new year.

As many of you know, 2016 has been a year of massive change, growth and renewal, in Wainfleet.

In an era of changing times in the world, in Canada and across the province of Ontario, Council has been working diligently to establish a new culture within the organization and position the Township for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in years to come.

To that end, we have hired a great new CAO, Michael J. Smith, who has set about building a committed and professional team who have the priorities of the Township front and centre at all times.

We have completely overhauled the structure of the Corporation of the Township, by conducting a complete assessment of the organization, including reviews of Fire Operations, Corporate Services and Health and Safety, along with appropriate staff reorganization. We have our housekeeping in good order, having updated our procedural By-Law, completed a Council Code of Conduct, a full job evaluation and completion of our first ever Council Strategic Plan.

As a Township, there is much to look forward to in 2017 as we look toward finishing our extensive arena renovations, the paving of Quarry Road, a lakefront master plan with the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA), and a host of updates to our policies and procedures within the Township.

As a municipal politician and Mayor of the Township, I have to say it is wonderful to play a role during such exciting and historical times in Wainfleet. This year will set the stage for the prosperity and well-being of the Township for many years to come.

As we look ahead to 2017 and the exciting development and opportunities to come, I am once again reminded what a great privilege it is to serve as the Mayor of the Township of Wainfleet. As all Members of Council know, there is no greater honour than to be chosen by our peers to be their voice on Council.

Happy New Year on behalf of Wainfleet Council.
